Khaleeq A. Lewis Kyoshi, 7th Degree Black Belt-Hiden Mokuroku Menkyo
Born and raised in The Bronx NY Khaleeq A. Lewis Kyoshi began training in the martial arts early in life under the tutelage of Maurice Joseph. Since Khaleeq Kyoshi grew up in an area where many trained in the different arts street fighting and boxing, he learned at an early age the importance of self defense. This was the beginning of a long and very involved career in many aspects and disciplines of the martial arts.
Lewis Kyoshi has trained at the Gleason's Boxing Gym in Brooklyn and also Gladiator's Boxing Gym in Manhattan. He went on to study several disciplines of the martial arts such as Karate, Jujutsu, Aikido, Aiki-Jujutsu, Kenpo, Bukijutsu (weaponry), and Ninjutsu. He has been trained & mentored under Maurice Joseph, Hilly Lawrence, Ali Abdul Karim Hanshi; Professor Yaya A. Muhammad, Jamie Ellerbe Soke, Harvey King Shihan, & the late, great O'Sensei Ronald Duncan Sr. Through the supervision and instruction of O'Sensei Ron Duncan Sr. and Jamai Ellerbe Soke, Lewis Kyoshi has become a certified instructor in the Way of the Winds System and has been studying Nagano Ryu Heihou for more than a decade. In 2019 Lewis Kyoshi received the rank of Nanadan with the Hiden Mokuroku Menkyo from the Nagano Ryu Heihou Kyokai and was granted permission to include Nagano Ryu with-in his curriculum. Lewis Kyoshi has traveled to Japan to train in the Shinto Muso Ryu at the Kodokan dojo where he received his Shodan.
Evolving into such a versatile practitioner of the martial arts, Lewis Kyoshi participated in many demonstrations of martial combat that would thrill audiences with spectacular displays of armed and unarmed hand to handed combat. Lewis Shihan has participated in exhibitions that would include a vast assortment of traditional and non-traditional weaponry.
Through discipline and commitment to physical fitness, Lewis Kyoshi was led to be a private fitness trainer for the New York Sports Club in Woodmere L.I. Lewis Kyoshi worked and attended NYUs Stern Business School, majoring in Business Management. He has performed demonstrations, and has conducted self defense workshops for the student body on many occasions. Lewis Kyoshi has also taught at various locations in New York and New Jersey. He has students who take the time to travel far and wide to seek knowledge from him.
In late 2009 Lewis Kyoshi established the Lewis Martial Arts Center & the Makotokan Warrior Arts Association. In 2010, with a recommendation from the renowned Jujutsu and Shotokan Karate Master, Professor Sayfullaah Al - Amriykiy, Lewis Kyoshi was inducted into the Legendary Great Grandmaster Aaron Banks Martial Arts Hall of Fame and was also inducted into the U.S.A.Hall of Fame by Dr. Jim Thomas P.H.D., Grandmaster of the Alliance Group in March of 2010. In January of 2012 Lewis Kyoshi received the honor of being inducted into the Action M.A. Magazine Hall of Fame by Sifu Alan Goldberg.
Lewis Kyoshi received the Honors award from the East New York Urban Corps for teaching and lecturing youth in that community. Lewis Kyoshi continues studying and training in the Martial Arts, building and refining his contribution to the Ways of the Warrior. In 2019 at the Nagano Ryu Heihou Kyokai Annual Tai Kai, Lewis Sensei became the first student to be named "Head Master" of the Tenjin Ryu & granted full permission from the Nagano Ryu National Headquarters to run a Nagano Ryu branch system.
